The Night Owl

With all the traveling and excitement of the summer, the bedtime has become almost non-existent. We were in Regina for 3 days. A rare treat of spending time in a hotel. We met up with our best friends. After putting the kids to bed, we sat in the hall way with some snack food and wine with doors of the rooms cracked open so we can keep an eye on the kids. It’s almost 10:30 p.m.. We are all starting to fade and thinking of going to bed. But my little 6-yr-old is still wide awake, tossing and turning, thirsty and too hot. Patiently, Scott and I took turns trying to convince her that it’s time for bed. ”Close your eyes, count the sheep” so it goes…all in vain. I’m starting to lose my patience because I really want to spend uninterrupted time with my best friend who is about to move away to far off land. That’s when I saw the lights turning on in my room. By now, I’m ready to go in and shake my finger and give her the ultimatum. So, I walk into the room to find her laying in bed reading the Gideon’s HOLY Bible (that’s how she called it). I quickly back out of the room because I am laughing so hard that tears are coming down. Holidays….Summer vacation….relax mommy. It’s not the end of the world.
